Tamron SP 150-600mm Di VC USD

For me the hardest part is remembering to keep the shut speed up. This is the first "big" lens I've used so I've got nothing to compare it to but I find that if I let the shut get under 250/sec it wont be sharp.
I use a mono 90% of the time on a 5d3. I still very green when it comes to photography but I have got a few nice shots with this lens.

Same here. My first outing with it was to the Safari Park in San Diego, and a lot of my images weren't as sharp as they could have been, for that reason. Same with some bear and eagle shots in Alaska. Not a big fan of Tv mode (usually Av), but it would've saved a lot of shots for me.

Of course, they take some massaging in Lightroom on the RAW-files, but hey, whatever it takes

I went out this afternoon to try and get some shots of racing powerboat testing. I have to say, I'm not getting on with this lens very well at all. As usual it was overcast most of the afternoon and I was having to use the lens at the long end. I shot about 700 pictures (8fps stylee) and split the shooting between the Tammy and my Canon 70-200mm f2,8II + 1.4TC III. When I get home, I then delete similar lloking shots from my high burst rates, soft shots, missed shots, and shots that I just don't like and ended up with about 150 left, which I then import into lightroom to see what I can make of this remainder. Now I do all this pre-PP deleting without looking at any metadata, so I don't actually know which lens is which (at lest not technically). I now find that out of the 150 shots left, only around 30 of them are from the Tammy and I was being pretty generous with letting them through if I am honest.

I'll keep working with this lens as there are definitely a couple of shots that I need this lens for, but as for an action lens in dingy Northern England in Autumn, I'm not convinced that it is a good paring with my 7D. having to push the ISO up just ruins any shot with noise (I still have to crop, even at the long end). Some shots where ISO 1600+ and I was getting shutter speeds of 160th and I was either wide open or at f8.

I'm sure in good light I would have more luck, but at the moment, it's hard work figuring how to get what I want from this lens. perhaps I never will, as it's not the quickest lens around. I'm not knocking the lens, just giving my opinion that I can't make it do what I would like to (sure others could). It would definitely help to have a panning mode IS

Still it gives me something to aim for. Please Santa can I have some really sunny days this Autumn/Winter and can you move the sun a little higher too, so to clear all the ruddy trees

Yup. Nobody anywhere ever claimed that this was a low-light lens.

Yup, and whoever didn't say that, was right. Still, come summer time next year it will be fine Funnily enough I do have a bird shot that I want and this lens will be perfect. Just need the bird in question to reappear this winter
