Beautiful eagle Peter.

Ed, when you go to meet the owl lady in Fort Meyers tell her you would also like to see Florida Scrub Jays. She
can have them eating out of your hands.

Thank you Robert.

I finally got my lens back from Tamron. It had the AF function repaired, cleaned, new firmware according to the packing slip.
Sun is out and I will give it a quick test at lunch if all goes as planned.
FYI, sending a lens in for any service work the week of Christmas is a bad idea if you want quick turnaround! Poor planning on my part!

Well, I either need a giant focus adjustment or this baby is worse than when I sent it in. I took several photos of standing geese, walking geese and a few trees, not a single image in focus.
Focus seemed slower to me as well.
Will fiddle and post an update if I figure anything out that points to user error.

I got a chance to get a 7d mkii tomorrow. I also have a chance to send it back. Thinking of the 7d mkii or 70D + a macro lens (same money). How does the 7d mkii performs with Tammy 150-600? I got a 6d now and I'm happy with that combo. I've never used a camera with an af system like7d mkii so maybe your answer can help me in my decision about these two camera bodies (70D vs 7d mkii) I will also begin to shoot videos in the future.

I'd spend some time in the 70D forum. You'll find it is a fantastic performer and used (in my opinion)
for a greater range of photography than the 7Dii....not that the 7Dii can't, just for example a lot of
us love the 70D for macro and astro because of the tilt/swivel screen. That same screen is also touch
which is super nice for pulling focus if you do video.
The 7Dii has a vastly larger buffer and as you know a much more advance AF system so it tends more
for BIF/sports photography....so which is more important to you?

A month ago Poof and I went to Conowingo dam to shoot eagles. She with 70D + 100-400ii and me with
7Dii + 400DOii, shooting side by side, often the same eagle as it few by. In the end I got more keepers
than she did but she did get keepers and lots of them.

Where will you be shooting mostly? Environmental concerns? I think most would agree that the 7Dii is
far better sealed against the weather.

Back to visiting the 70D forum. There you will see every genre of photography captured well, but guess
what-if you visit the 7Dii forum you'll find the same!

In the end you can't go wrong. Just work up a table of the pros/cons/what you want then you'll know :)

Hello
Thanx for your reply.

Mostly I shoot static wildlife not so much action. It depends too. Maybe 10 times a year I shoot eagles and capercaillie and at these situations I need good iOS performance and accurate & fast af system. I've owned 70D once and I loved the tilt screen but I wasn't surprised by the af system from being an earlier 7d owner. I loved the af movie mode (which 7d mkii also have). I'm thinking and thinking. Now I've a fast 120-300/2.8 os lens that I think will suite the 7d mkii well. And my Tamron 150-600 for my 6D. I usually use the center point to focus cause the 6D af system is not so good and I hope that I can feel like upgrading myself if buy the 7d mkii. I think it will be hard to go back to 70D again.

I got 17-40 which I will use for landscape on 6D and for normal walk/around at 7d mkii. For night shooting I've always use my camera without a tilt screen and that's not a problem for me. If I only got the Tamron 150-600 I would not buy the 7D mkii but now when I got the Sigma I think that it also would be a great combo for low light shooting like early mornings etc.. I've downloaded some raw examples from the 7d mark ii and edited them in Lightroom and I'm impressed of the picture quality but those examples is shot with high end telephoto lens (600/4, 500/4 etc) and only a good quality lens can make everything seems better with bokeh, noise etc so I don't know if my lenses can produce images like that. But up to iOS 3200 I feel very good of what I've seen.

I don't do so much bif but earlier, some years ago, I did. But I owned a camera that was able to do some serious bif and thinking that the 7d mkii can be like an invitation to bif again. Everyone is talking about sport and action photography with 7d mkii but I'm more for the general shooting like wildlife (not only bif), macro, landscape etc. I see the video shooting capabilities as a very good thing here.

The concern in everything of this is which alternative is the best, to add a 2nd camera body to which is day & night to my current camera (which is good) or to buy one or two lenses?

There are 7Dii's in stock at Canon in the refurb section for a really good price right now....if that helps the decision...

One of my early tests for 7DII back from the summer, I posted a couple in the 7DII thread at the time and just got around to pp'ing the rest of that session.

NoTime. I like you started with the Tamzooka on the 6D. When the time came to get a more advanced AF body I gravitated to the 7D2 for several reasons. I am a sports, concert and wildlife shooter for the most part. For sports, the 10 FPS and the advanced AF features of the 7D2, were the perfect fit. For concert, it is mostly low light/High ISO shooting and the 7D2 honestly holds up pretty well into the 12800 ISO range. Given my 6D beats is pretty soundly in low light because of the -3EV center point, the 7D2 can still hold it's own as long as there is enough light to focus.
And finally for wildlife, the 7D2 paired with the Tamzooka is a phenomenal pair. Yes, there are a few people who have experienced some issues with the two, but mine only needed a little MFA and it was great from that point forward.
The 70D, what what I was able to do with it, just did not stand up to the rigors of what I needed it to do in those areas I needed them the most. Not a bad camera at all, but just not up to the requirements I had for my style of shooting.
If you shoot more static work and only occasionally would need the advanced features, you might be better served to save a few bucks and get the 70D. To me, it is all about what you need the body for. And only you can decide what is most important to you.
