Beautiful as always Gabe. You have no problems with this lens and the mark IV?
I read that not all Tamron lenses work flawless with the new body.

My lens finally works better. After new firmware and calibration.. I'm happy now.

Live view doesn't work, just like on the 80D. I still haven't sent it in, but maybe for the better now that I have the 5DIV, which probably would require another trip to Tamron.
Anyway, other than that it works fine, best keeper rate for the AF on the 5DIV.

This lens is not known as a landscape lens, but I think this one turned out OK.

This is more along the lines of what this lens is known for. This was shot from roughly 12 feet away.

my 150-600 lens at any mm is so much sharper than my Tamron f2.8 70-200, an I asking too much of the 70-200 to get a sharp shot at 200mm??

A few more fishing egret photos.
Unfortunately, I was relatively far this time and these are about 65% crops (or more).

Hi Gang - brother from over on the Sigma side here

What backpack to you folks use to hold your 150-600 with body attached, that also fits a few more lenses, tripod and hopefully room for a water bottle and stuffed windbreaker jacket.

I do not see a Lowepro bag that fits my full needs... although I have a Lowepro Fastpack Video 250 which does fit my 150-600 (hood reversed) plus flash and 2 medium sized lenses - and I can fit my 70D in the upper compartment.
Water bottle OR tripod.

Please share - thanks

I am using Lowpro flipside 400 or 500, the 400 is a bit tight but I can get another body and a macro lens of two in for example 180L and 100 macro USM.

You can get loads of stuff in the 500 but it is big and if well loaded heavy.

Very nice set(s) Gabe. And enjoy your new 5Div, which I believe is a super-nice camera!

More birds from this morning (again shot with a 5DmkIV)

The first one is my favorite small bird shot for this year, even though this little guy (a Carolina Wren) was a bit too far to be poster material. Heavy crop. Natural vignetting, just happened to be at the right spot :)

Hello all! I read thru about 5 pages of this thread, didnt see anything about what I want to ask so I thought this would be a good place to land my question.

I have the VC version. Bought it 2nd hand. Have noticed 2 odd things about it. Maybe its normal maybe there is a problem, Im hoping to find out. 1 - when composing a shot, sometimes I will hit the shutter button several times (to obtain focus and compose) before snapping the shot. While doing it the VC is very bouncy as Im watching through the view finder, almost what I would consider jumping violently with each push of the shutter button. I have the Tamron 70-300, I know there is some VC activation activity but my 150-600 is VERY pronounced. 2 - after Im done with the shot, lens is sitting idle, I can hear a distinct secondary VC disengagement. Almost as if the VC has stayed powered on and turns off a 2nd time. This happens with every shot. After taking the shot 2nd "turn off" happens about 3 seconds later. Yes, I sent the lens to Tamron about 3 weeks ago, turned into a nightmare to say the least. Biggest mistake with that was going thru a local Tamron dealer. Before I send it back I thought I would touch base with the forum for feedback on your experience with the lens. Thanks bunches for the replies!

I use back button rather than shutter for AF but I expect the same operation.

1. On first activation I would expect to see the viewfinder jump, but not subsequent activations assuming:
a) the VC/IS has not timed out
b) the second button press is not causing the lens to move, if so this could upset the VC
2) The VC/IS activation command comes from the camera body, 3 seconds after the shot sounds like the standard Canon body time-out for IS and so is probably normal- check your camera manual for what timeout to expect for IS.

Have you tried a seies of handheld shots with and witout IS to see if the sharpness is better with IS on. You will need to do 5-10 of on and off cases, choose a shutter speed than is 1/2 to 1/4 the lens focal length.

Thanks Lester for the reply.

I have played with the lens to try to understand whats going on, after all perhaps it is doing just what its supposed to do. Sharpness doesn't seem to be effected with or without VC - I typically keep the ISO up to maintain a fast shutter speed. I did rattle off a few shote with and without VC - without VC I set the camera down to eliminate hand shake. No visible difference. Which is to say the VC "seems" to be doing whats its supposed to do.

It never occurred to me about the time out for VC activation - after reading what you wrote I will go back and do more tests. But I did notice last night that the VC seems to stay active longer than what it should - body doesn't matter,5D MkI,MkII, and 60D. Took several shots last night, watched thru the view finder and could see the VC was actice for what seemed a long time, 5 to 6 seconds. So maybe this secondary disengagement of the VC is actually the only disengagement. Ill put it through more paces and apply what I picked up from you. Chances are it is operator error, but I'd like to be sure.

Again thanks for the input!

The second disengagement of the VC is normal I think. Mine does that too, if you talk about the VC click or noise you hear about 30-60 seconds after the lens was last used.
