Confusing to keep track of the 3-4 threads on this lens. I've been coming to this one to see images based on the title.

Jan 31, 2014 07:55 | #1190 Craig that is one sharp and beautiful image. Your pics (and a few others here and FM) make me think I should keep working with this lens and not throw in the towel. I've been coming to this one to see images based on the title. What I've been doing is keeping the 4 threads open in four separate tabs, always keeping them at the point I have read up to. When I get to the end of a thread, I make sure that I leave the tab so that it shows the page selector just below the last post, and when I come back to the tab, I hit F5 to get the new posts. Makes it a lot easier than trying to remember where you were, especially when many posters are duplicating their posts in multiple threads.

I was afraid of that too, seeing so many soft images and fairly sharp ones at 600mm f/9 at 100%, but my copy is optically pleasing. It's obviously dropping off in pixel contrast at 600/6.3 compared to wide open at 400 and below, or at 600/9, but the roll-off is very smooth and natural, and not full of wavelength-dependent aberrations. It seems that everyone who clearly knows how to get a sharp shot with a long lens has done fairly well at getting detail at 600mm in their samples. AF, I don't know about. I was very unhappy with the way mine AF'ed under overcast skies on the 7D; even for still subjects like a cardinal in a bush, the focus went past the bush completely to the end of the range and then came back again. Not a biggie for me, as I am used to manually focusing 800mm/11, but I was hoping for the ability to AF on the 7D with 600mm in all situations. Hopefully tomorrow afternoon, there will be sun and I will see how it works there, with both my 6D and 7D (I expect the 6D to work much better in low light and/or at f/6.3).

Looks very good indeed, Illume. Also, I have a request. Would you be so kind as to also post some of your images in the actual Image Sample section of the forum? Here is the thread: https://photography-on-the.net …48082&highlight=150-600mm because that is where people will look for images made with this lens as it is the dedicated image sample thread. All the other threads are discussion threads that also happen to have some images. If you know what I mean? Thanks! Thanks! Perhaps I'll just provide my Flickr link in that thread. I have an entire set with images taken with the Tamron (it's in my signature below). Canon 6D | Sigma 35 1.4 | 40mm pancake | 16-35 f/4 | 24-105L | 100L 2/8 | Tamron 150-600 VC

My thoughts are that this lens is a great value for the $$, I think as I get better with it and learn how to handle it I will like it more and more, and I like it a lot now. What I do know and did know going in, is that using a 600mm lens was going to take some practice. I remember getting my Canon 400 5.6 and the first bunch of outings with it I could not get a decent image. But with some practice I got better and better with it. 600mm is a a completely different animal altogether. I'm going to invest some time with it and work on my technique and I'm pretty sure I'll get more and more pleasing results as time goes by. Everyone has their own expectations and requirements, I know in My situation that the lens is capable, I have to work on my capabilities.
