Illume is killing it with this lens.

Definitely some great shots there. I just wish the EXIF data was intact on his Flickr.

Thanks! Perhaps I'll just provide my Flickr link in that thread. I have an entire set with images taken with the Tamron (it's in my signature below).

I just checked out that set on flickr. Most impressive. You're getting great results with the lens.

Yeah, excellent shots on that page! Looks like they are all in the same spot/branch? Do you have a setup with a feeder/branch to land on?

There is a thread over at FM (external link) about burst shots/tracking. It's still a young thread, but it may evolve into something useful.

Definitely what has me on the fence with this lens.

Just adding a few samples of mine to the actual image sample thread...

All w/60D, at 600mm, hand held. I think shutter on all these was 1/1000 and either f/8 or f/9. Not very much cropping on these.

What I do know and did know going in, is that using a 600mm lens was going to take some practice. ...600mm is a a completely different animal altogether. I'm going to invest some time with it and work on my technique and I'm pretty sure I'll get more and more pleasing results as time goes by.

I very much agree. Not that I have much experience, but coming from a 150-500 to this lens, I find myself surprised at just how much harder it is to shoot at 600 than at 500. The difference is certainly more than I anticipated. I'll keep working at it though and expect to improve. As I would expect anyone just getting a lens this long would.

Very nice Coyote images! Well done. Yeah its going to take some time to be comfortable with this lens. But I think the experience will be fun and in the end rewarding.

Despite having a Flickr account since 2011, I just started using it when I purchased this lens. Despite the slick interface, I don't find some of the controls to be particularly intuitive. All the images I've uploaded are jpgs, and done in exactly the same manner. Yet some show EXIF data while others don't. And today, the interface completely changed, and I'm now unable to share photos (by obtaining the code as before) on the forum. I get a message saying, "share this image publicly to obtain code," and the image is already shared to the public.

Anyway, I agree -- I also like to view EXIF data for photos. When I get time I'll add it manually to all the images in the description field.

Thanks. I have a rather elaborate set of branches and snags for birds to perch on before diving in for some food. I'm getting ready to overhaul the whole thing in preparation for spring and to accommodate the longer lens!

I'm hoping to take the Tamron out for a hike/bird outing this weekend.... weather permitting. Shooting out in the "wild" will be a whole different game.

You *should* have an option down in the lower, left of your screen that is something like "turn off new experience" or something like that that should return you to your normal interface. This new process they've got going is terrible.

If you have a 500 that you're happy with, it might not be. Sort of the same reason that I've never looked into the 500 zooms once I was happy with the 100-400; that extra 100mm is only, around 25% increase in subject size and just was never enough to get me to want to change. 50% larger subject, though? THAT was enough to get my attention with this Tamron.
