Thanks. I have a rather elaborate set of branches and snags for birds to perch on before diving in for some food. I'm getting ready to overhaul the whole thing in preparation for spring and to accommodate the longer lens!

I'm hoping to take the Tamron out for a hike/bird outing this weekend.... weather permitting. Shooting out in the "wild" will be a whole different game.

Neal, your set on Flickr is awesome! Great images. Would you care to show a wide shot of your elaborate set up? I'd like to learn a little more about attracting birds specifically for photography.

I'd like to setup something like that in the backyard, maybe this spring/summer. Right now I just shoot in the wild, which is more challenging, but fun.

You *should* have an option down in the lower, left of your screen that is something like "turn off new experience" or something like that that should return you to your normal interface. This new process they've got going is terrible.

Thank you! That did the trick and restored some sanity to Flickr. They must be beta testing that new interface. Hopefully they'll get the bugs out (I left some feedback) before launching it!

Definitely my preference too. Before the Tamron, the only long lens I had was a Canon 100-400. I've taken some decent shots with it, but running around trying to get shots of songbirds is very challenging in the wild. I learn a lot about the behavior of the birds from shooting/watching them from the blind. Knowing some of their "antics" can make a difference when you're out in their turf trying to catch them in a photo.

Despite having a Flickr account since 2011, I just started using it when I purchased this lens. Despite the slick interface, I don't find some of the controls to be particularly intuitive. All the images I've uploaded are jpgs, and done in exactly the same manner. Yet some show EXIF data while others don't. And today, the interface completely changed, and I'm now unable to share photos (by obtaining the code as before) on the forum. I get a message saying, "share this image publicly to obtain code," and the image is already shared to the public.

Anyway, I agree -- I also like to view EXIF data for photos. When I get time I'll add it manually to all the images in the description field.

the only time i've seen the exif disappear is when people 'save for web' so maybe you're doing that?

as others have said, excellent shots

Hi guys this is my dilemma i have a very sharp copy siggy 150-500 even at 500 handheld so would it be worth me paying out for the extra 100 i am not so sure.???

Agree with Eric's remarks (see what I did there :D ).

I did buy the Tamron, already owning the 150-500, hoping for an upgrade in my wildlife images. I think I'll get there, incrementally, via the longer reach - but only incrementally and only with some work. After considerable agonizing, I've decided to keep the Tamron and just put my Sigma up for sale this afternoon.

All that said... I am NOT sure I'd do it again. I was really happy with my 150-500. I don't think there would have been a thing in the world wrong with staying happy with it and saving my money for now.

Bottom line, I think that's a tough choice. But especially if spending the money is a major consideration, I think I'd advise standing pat. It's not going to help that both new and used prices on the 150-500 have dropped since the Tamron came out either. And for selling used, will only get that much worse for every person like me who bought the Tamron and is putting another Sigma into the used market.

If your sigma is very sharp already I don't see any reason to replace it with tamron or to add the tamron. Just move closer to the subject. :)

Seems like this lens is back in stock, I just got a call from our local store where I put down some payment but cancelled it yesterday because I found 1 online, well I waited long enough already so what is 1 more week to wait. Atleast I save some tax ordering in online.

My LR preset for exporting sRGB at 1024 long edge for the web strips out the EXIF. I have to remember to check that box for posting samples here.

The older versions of PS would strip the exif when saving for web but the last few versions don't. It was frustrating when saving for web with the prior versions for sure.

Seriously.

Wanna set yourself a challenge? Challenge yourself to get a good shot of any of the following on their own turf:
A: A Kingfisher
B: A Brown Creeper
C: Any of the Kinglets

Did somebody say Kinglet? :-D I wish I could claim this one, but it was shot by my GF, using a Sigma 50-500. She gave me specific permission to post it.

Yeah. I want to capture a king fisher in the wild in their own habitat.
Seems like it will be quite challenging.
