This is a re-edit I did of my youngest granddaughter. I had her reading a book and liked this tight crop showing her concentration.

Is the crop too tight?

I feel it is too tight. I think it would be better off if you allowed the viewer to see what she was concentrating on, or at least a lead to it and a tease of the corner of the book.

Thanks for the input. I probably shouldn't have mentioned the book. The idea was to have the viewer wonder what she's looking at / concentrating on.

The object of her attention was supposed to be a mystery but maybe there needs to be something in the frame to show what she is looking at.

I think it is a hair too tight, but more so, I wish the pose allowed for a little more access to the face. She's facing downward so much that she's cut off from the viewer. It's a nice shot, but I don't think it quite conveys the intended quality of concentration.

I like it, but might also try a crop just into her hair at the right.

It's a good concept and came out fairly well, but I'd agree that it's a hair tight. Also, a shame to have the frames of her glasses cutting so directly over her eye.

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. This was a shot I took last year and couldn't decide whether it was worthy or not. I tried this crop late last night in a state of sleeplessness (couldn't seem to fall asleep) and liked it at the time. The edge of her glasses would not have been so bad if they had been sitting on her nose straighter. :D

Thanks. Here's one more from that same shoot where you can see what she's concentrating on. :D

I like that one; it definitely gives a bit more context for the image

Thanks. Yeah, the book's a dead giveaway of what she's concentrating on. :D

I like 'em both as is; but "dead giveaway"? Just a big green hardback to me. What is it?

Well, the original image was cropped to remove any sign of what she was concentrating on. In the second image, it's readily apparent what she is concentrating on hence the book was a "dead giveaway" as to just what she was concentrating on in the first image.

The book just happens to be a volume from "The Harvard Classics" ... and the glasses are mine. Both were simple props for some fun photos with my granddaughter. She seemed to enjoy it anyway. I wish her mom had put her hair into a bun though. :D
