Its been a bit hectic at work over the last couple of months and have not had time to get out to shoot much except on the weekends and then mundane things have been interfering.

Ian (Wallace River) was kind enough to advise me on where he was when he shot some eagles a couple of days ago, so this morning packed the gear into the car and took a drive up to Pictou, a couple of hours away. It was sunny with cloudy periods, windy and minus 21C.

There were some eagles out in the treeline a loooooong ways away and I despaired on getting any close ups and even shot some pics of crows chasing gulls.

After being at the field for some time (3hrs) the owner of the abbatoir came out and told me that there was a juvenile on the top of his house! I quickly left the field and drove down the road about 100 yards and manage to get the close ups of the juvenile. Never did get any shots of eagles in flight (man I suck at that). Oh well, a long day, cold weather and some close up shots of a juvenile eagle. All in all a great day!

Tks Ian!

Eagles in the tree line. 700 mm and still cropped!

Great results, sorry you didn't see the feeding frenzy that usually happens. Harold (the farmer) likes to feed the eagles in winter, and likes having that young guy land on his roof. That new lens seems to work pretty good!

I was very happy with those, those were actually shot hand held as I didn't want to chance him flying away before I could get the tripod setup.

Not a problem, his tractor wouldn't start so he could not put out any more for the birds to feed on and I didn't want to chance staying too late in the day and getting caught driving in crap after dark. I will definitely be back and Harold was great to talk with.

Thanks, it seems that there are more birds up around the upper part of the province now, but once we get back to warmer weather then the birds should pick up around my place.

Yes, I will have to get back up to there another time an try to be there when their fed. I have been to a similar event in February where they use remains of chickens from a chicken farm to hold an event on a weekend. The last two times I have been there I had a Bigma, but this year am looking forward to using the 500 f4.0 Canon.
