Presets should be used for specific purposes and reasons, if in doubt just make nice well exposed, color images. Professional wedding photographer, solution architect and general technical guy with multiple Amazon Web Services certifications.

I would tend to agree. However, when I first got into light room, I found this tutorial very useful in understanding where to tweak. However, after a while realised the preset did not suit all situations and stopped using it. Canon 6D: Canon 85mm f/1.8 ~ Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 ~ 70-300mm f/4.0 - f/5.6 ~ Carl Zeiss 50mm f/1.4 ~ Carl Zeiss 100mm f/2.0

Think: timeless.
