First attempt at a time-exposure with the 350D. I had better luck (more saturation, brilliant colors) with this same shot quite a few years ago with a non-digi 35mm, so it looks like I have some adjusting to do.

One thing that didn't help, the train was going in reverse so I wasn't able to get the brilliant headlights which REALLY would have brought this picture to life. I wasn't expecting the reversal (not their usual M.O.), so I had to take what I could get.

SP, f/8, 20 sec., ISO 100, 18mm

(maybe a 30 second exposure next time?)

Considering Amtrak's schedule and promptness, I'd expect them to be going backwards at times. :)

Really, it is underexposed a bit. But changing the time might not get the image you want. Use the time to include as much or as little of the train as you want, keep the aperture stopped down like you did to maintain DOF, and adjust the ISO to 200 or 400 even to brighten up the image as needed.

I like the concept and it has the potential to be a great shot.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. And Tharaka, thanks for correcting me. I often make the mistake of using "time lapse" instead of "time exposure."

Time lapse is actually related more to video, right?

Edit: I suppose I should try my 50 next time instead of the kit lens. I wanted a wider view of the bridge, but I guess in this case a better exposure with a closer view would be more practical.
