Would some older L lenses have no date code?

I'm looking at a couple of lenses. A 16-35mm L and a 135mm f2.0L. I haven't seen them in person yet, but the owner says there is no date code on the. He understands what the date code is and where they are located, but says there is none there.

From the pictures of them I know they are not new enough to have no date code. Is this a cause for concern if no code is really on it. Maybe they were bought refurbished from canon or something?

Has anyone came across this?

Ever changing.

They both should have a date code. The Canon 16-35mm f/2.8L came out between 2001-2007. The Canon 135mm f/2.0L should have one too, it first came out in 1996. Sometimes its hard to see because it is barely stamped hard enough.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

I guess they both could of been repaired and had new mounts put on them? New mounts wouldn't have date codes on them.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

That's what I was thinking. I still may make the hour trip to look at them. If they really have no date code that's going kill any resell value.
