Hi,
Is there any way to turn off auto focus on a Canon EOS Rebel 300D?
Thanks,
Michael

Setting this switch to 'MF' will disable auto focus. My personal stuff:http://www.flickr.com/photos/jngirbach/sets/

apersson850 Obviously it's a good thing More info | To be utterly specific, if you have a very old lens, the markings are AF and M. Anders

apersson850 Obviously it's a good thing More info | But then it doesn't fit, if it's a Canon FD or similar. But it's true that what you say applies to new lenses too, if it's something like a Samyang or Leitz. Anders

Sometimes your eyes are more accurate and a lot of photographers love shooting all manual, which is why companies like Leica are still around Canon Rebel XS gripped, Canon 18 - 55mm, Sigma 18 - 200mm f3.5 - f6.3 DC OS HSM,Sigma 50mm f1.4 Olympus TG-810 Tough, LowePro Classified 160AW, Canon 430EX II Flash, Kata E-702

apersson850 Obviously it's a good thing More info | The problems with standard cameras, or rather their focusing screens, is that they are optimized for bright viewfinders, not accurate focusing. Thus you can't really tell the difference if you are using an f/1.4 lens, as long as you are focusing manually within the depth of field of about an f/4 setting. The rest is guesswork, or at least guesstimating by rocking the lens focusing ring back and forth and trying to settle somewhere in the middle of the best focused range. Anders

More info | Dec 19, 2013 06:28 | #13 Just one note, BBF (Back Button Focus) is not an option on the 300D/Rebel, and there is no custom function menu. There is a hack to enable the 10D firmware to install on the camera as they are basically the same inside, with a couple of minor exceptions. With the hack you get the Cfn menu from the 10D and most functions work. The only exceptions seem to be related to AF, metering modes and flash. So although you can then select BBF it doesn't work and the shutter button still starts AF. YOU also can't change the AF mode away from AI, change the metering modes or select second curtain flash, you can set some of them but they have no effect.
