My first attempt at macro shots, with a 350d, im new to Dlsr use and bought the 350d cheap to start me off.so please let me know if i could improve, i only have a 35-80mm thanks

The eyes are reasonably sharp & these aren't terrible for a first try. You might try practicing on things that don't move, though? ; D

These aren't macro shots. They just look like close ups. For example, a macro shot would be where the cat's nose fills the entire frame.
Macro tubes are an inexpensive way to get into actual macro. Electronic connection/automatic tubes allow full control of aperture and metering. "Dumb" tubes have no electronic connections so controlling aperture on lenses is a little more of a process but they are very inexpensive.

So with Macro or closeup the background is absolutely critical. Not that it isn't with a 'normal' shot, but I think it is even more critical close up.

It doesn't have to be just one big blur or one color, but it should complement the subject.

Of course depending how close you get, what constitutes the 'background' changes.
