Hi,
I am sure this has been discussed, but have had no luck finding it.

I have both a 60D (13.5K clicks) and a 40D (4K clicks and 3 year warranty). I am going to get rid of one of them. In fact, I have my 60D already up for sale but am having second thoughts on it.

I am just getting back into photography and have the 18-55mm IS II and 55-250mm IS lenses. I don't have any one area of photography I am interested in, still trying to find what I like.

I know about the slower FPS and plastic body on the 60D vs the 40D. I've seen some reviews where the ISO was noisier on the 60D and others that said the 40D was noisier at the same ISO level. It's hard to tell which is correct and which isn't.

So, I am looking for advice from anyone who has used these cameras and their opinions on which one is better in the long run.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
Al

I never had a 40d. I have a 60d and really like it. I wouldn't be concerned about the plastic body. I actually think in some circumstances the plastic body is a blessing. It's pretty tough stuff. I would think that the 60d is a much more advanced camera.

The 60D has a newer sensor and does video. Technology wise, it is years ahead of the 40D. With that said, look at your results. Which do you prefer? Does either have less noise? Better IQ?

Here is a website that compares cameras and you can read which camera does what better:

I don't know about the 40D, never touched one. I can get nice looking shots out of my 60D at ISO 6400. It takes a bang-on exposure and a few minutes in Lightroom, but it is not brain surgery. Keep the 60D.

The 40D was my first crop. EXCELLENT crop Camera. Remained Canons best crop until the 7D IMHO.
I still regret selling mine. I would keep it.

Well, that settles it then. You have to keep them both.

AAARRRGGGHHHHH!

It was going great until lens pirate ;)

Seriously though, Thank you to all of you who offered your opinion. I do like the 40D, but am going to stick with the 60D. Now, just have to sell the 40D because I can't afford to keep both!

The 40D is a great camera (hint, hint) with only 4K clicks (hint, hint) with a 3 year transferable Henry's warranty (hint, hint) with box, strap (hint, hint) and manuals. (big hint, big hint)

Al
