I been looking at these images all day and I still don't know which one would be the correct white balance. The top image was from the camera with Auto white balance the second was from a white balance card. I think the second one is right because the hat and wrap is a light cream color. Had to blur his face.

Which one?

I'd be looking at something in between.

I was thinking the same. Auto WB definitely not right, needs just a little more warmth.

Try something in between, walk away fro a few hours and then come back to it as the first shot you look at.

This color s*it can drive you nuts!

Between the two, I'd go for the second one. The second one could be slightly warm, but I don't know since I wasn't there. I'd rather err on the side of warmth for skin tones.

Auto anything is always approximate, usually "passable", only occasionally right.

I agree that something in between would look best. But I think both are well within the tolerance associated with artistic license.

If in doubt, you could always do "Skin tone by the numbers" - a google search will get you a video by lynda.com with the tricks on how to do it.

It doesn't really matter in this case. What looks best to you. Depending on the ambient light, white clothing/rug will reflect that light. In this photo, correct/enhance the baby's face. That's what really matter. No cares about the "white" rug/clothing.

Right, here it's all about the skin tones being 'correct', i.e. not greenish or too pinkish. The viewer's eye will accept the off-white hue of the textile as white.
