OMG, this must be the lens where I was hoping for. A wide angle which is fast. If it is sharp this would be a killer lens.

Hope they will actually make this lens.

16-20? Why bother with the hassle of making it a zoom for just 4mm of FL?

At such wide focal lengths, the short distance is pretty substantial.

Gerry (MakisM1) put together a pretty good comparison of it:

If it started at 14mm I'd be interested since my 14 is only f2.8.

Sounds very interesting indeed. Hopefully (but unlikely) it will take 77mm filters. If it has good sharpness at f2 I can see a lot of people jumping on this, especially for star photography.

Sigma's answer to the 16-18-21 WATE. Today Canon, tomorrow, watch out Leica.

So let me play devil's advocate. I had the Sigma 18-35/1.8 for a short while. That was usable on a full frame body up to around 28mm, so it is effectively an 18-28/1.8 lens on a full frame body. Why would that not be more attractive than a 16-20/2? Is 2mm on the wide end really worth it?

The 18-35 is usable at 18mm on FF? From what I gathered from this FM thread (external link), it was only usable at 35mm on FF.

2mm on the wide end does make a difference.

D'oh! The cold froze my brain! It's usable 28-35mm. I even owned the lens for a brief period, too! Please disregard my earlier comment and shoot me dead.

If it is very usable at 2.0 and sharp stopped down for landscape.....16-20 is actually not a bad range as I think 4mm at that end is a bigger deal than it sounds like. I would rather see a 16 1.4/1.8, but this sounds good.

Everything is relative.

Tokina 11-16 isn't much better in terms of range, but I liked it when I had it.

Tokina 11-16 has a zoom ratio of 45%, and also has a much wider view to start with. This rumored Sigma lens has a zoom ration of 25%.

I personally would rather see a smaller / cheaper / sharper 16mm prime than a zoom with such a small range of focal lengths.
