I bought a Canon LP-E6 battery from B and H last year. After one year of extermely light use, I am getting 2 bars on the recharge. The battery is stamped 2012 06. I am using the OEM charger. Has this ever happen to anyone here. Just wondering if I got a lemon of a battery or is there something else?

Light use shortens battery life. Regular charge/discharge cycles keep them fresh.

"Light use" may have created the issue as these batteries like to be used. Allow it to run down in camera through use or on purpose and then recharge and see if it bounces back. To do this on purpose turn off auto-shutoff or auto-standby and leave a menu screen on to drain the battery.

I had the same problem with moderate use and two canon OEM batteries. I opted for the aftermarket batteries with the Japanese cell like Wasabi, Sterlingtek and Maximal and have never had the problem since. Also the after market brands mentioned were all a fraction of the Canon price.
Try this! (external link)

Thank you for all your tips. I will try turning off the auto shutoff and leaving the display on to see if it works once the battery has drained. I have a pair of OEM and pair of Wasabi cells which I had no problem with.

That's a lot of batteries for light use. I'd pick one or two as favorites and use those the most. I have a five year old XSi that seems to have the same life that its always had. I only have one battery for it.

To more quickly drain the battery, make a couple of movies! That really sucks out the power.

I used the menu on method twice without any success after recharge. I will try now with the movie method to see if it makes a difference.

I shoot the daughter's 3 Nutcracker performances once a year. I should use the camera more often.

It may well have more to do with how you store the batteries. Li-ion batteries last longer if not stored in a fully charged state. They also perform better when they are not subject to full discharge cycles.

The most accurate info I have found on batteries of all types can be found here. (external link)

Not having any luck with cycling this battery. I discharged it by draining it with the menu on twice. I also drained it down twice by the movie mode. After each recharge, I only get two bars. Should I try charging it with the Wasabi charger?
