Late to the game, but I always had camera with grips, so always counter clockwise because that's where everything sits. Interesting to see folks feedback and reasons for doing what they do - learn something new.

Anti-clockwise for me, I rarely use a grip and even when I do I often still use the main shutter button in portrait mode, as I am moving between portrait and landscape and it is quicker to not relocate my hand every couple of shots. If I am going to be doing a shoot where I am using portrait orientation all the time though, I will use the grip controls.

I will very occasionally turn it clockwise if circumstances dictate (such as having a flashgun mounted, but needing it on the other side of the lens axis). I find it really uncomfortable to use that way though.

It's something I never thought of - I just naturally turn the camera clockwise. Maybe it's because I'm a southpaw but I just tried turning my camera counter-clockwise and it felt weird.

I had no idea so many people used the term "anti-clockwise". I've always usd "counter-clockwise". Must be a regional thing.

I prefer counter-clockwise because that's where the button ends up when using a grip. This is a pain in the rear when using a flash bracket which seems to be designed the other way around. That's why I bought this one. http://www.bhphotovideo.com …43039&is=REG&A=details&Q= (external link)
And of course I don't like it very well either. The mount gets in the way. They make this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sjto_TwiMCE (external link)
But I just can't cost justify it.

CCW without flash. Both with on-camera bounced flash (no bracket) depending on where I want the light originating. However, my CW pictures are all upside down and I end up deleting them.

Anti-clockwise is the term in Australia and Britain. Counter-clockwise is the term used in America and Canada.

Gripped or not, I go counterclockwise. Keeps the button on top, whether on the grip or the body.

It depends what way I am facing but the button always goes on top. ;-)a

No, I never claimed to be outstanding in the field of photography. I said I was out standing in the field taking photos.

Counter clockwise.

Would be weird with the 1DX if otherwise but sometimes had to shoot clockwise due to lack of space.

Shutter finger is more relaxed when the hand lays across the top after counter clock wise turn.
Also the hand on the bottom has no job but to cradle the cam and lens.
Based on a few years with an ungripped 30D.
