Used the 70-200 more for this game, but didn't have as much luck, so I'll use the 300 more on the next set. Just not liking the cropping resolution as much with the 70-200 from the concourse. First few are with the 300, others with the 70-200

AGAIN with the fabulous shots...

i just CAN NOT get the same results. someone posted a recipe for PP for me to try (maybe you?) about a month ago and the turned out worse than my very first efforts (not the poster's fault)...

looks like a couple of goals in these but again, having such beautiful lighting certainly does wonders for the images!

i should come watch you in action. maybe i can get some PP-foo through osmosis, but having great shots to begin with certainly cant hurt!

Thanks Dave! If you're willing to make the trek down here, you're more than welcome to shoot with me. I'd love to have the company.

I really don't do much PP in here other than my RAW settings. For the shots on ice level I will touch up the blacks occasionally because they tend to get really washed out shooting through the glass. I have all of my presets done in Camera Raw, so when I transfer the images, I sort by where in the stadium they were taken, apply the RAW preset, then move on to the next set. I have a set for the 300 over the glass, and the 70-200 over the glass, then I have slight adjustments for different locations. I usually make a folder in the 1DX for my shooting location and save the images there so it's quick and easy when I go to download. I'll take a snapshot of my RAW settings and an image pre/post so you can see what it looks(ed) like.

Thanks again for the C&C!

not sure of any C and C i did.... unless that stands for compliment and compliment!

i cant critique your work. at least not while im at MY level... lol

im putting a few up from last nights NAHL game here in a few minutes...

id LOVE to shoot at a rink with real lights! i might have to take you up on that one day. im a bit equipment challenged for shooting from the concourse. id have to go 70-200 f2.8 + 1.4. that would get me 280mm f4. i guess i wouldnt really be TOO far off...

I still think you have a good set of work, especially the first one. Any reason you decided to run with the 70-200 over the 300 a little more for this game? Or where you just trying to mix it up?

These look awesome, I love seeing your work on here. I grew up in Chicago and am a die-hard Blackhawks fan, so it's nice to see some photos of future Hawks.

Very nice. My 135L gets here soon and hopefully over the holidays I will hear back from a couple of local hockey clubs to see if they will grant me access to shoot. Your photos give me something to work towards.

Many thanks! I decided to use the 70-200 more on this game because I felt I kept missing some shots with the 300. It was just a little tight at times. It could have just been that game, because I haven't felt like that before, and really, since.

Thanks for the compliments! It sure is great getting to see all of these kids pass through here on their way up. I've been lucky to see so many stars and cup winners skate, from Crawford, Bickell, Versteeg up to Raanta, Smith, Leddy, etc. The club is just so deep!

You'll have to let me know how that works! The 70-200 covers everything for me, but having a shorter prime would be a good option. the 85L is just too damn slow!

I was hoping Canon would come out with a fast zoom that would cover the 200-300 range, but I don't see it happening. Unless of course I sell a whole bunch of stuff and spring for the 200-400.....like that'll happen any time soon!

I will for sure. I already notice a weight decrease from the 70-200 that I've used in the past. The whole reason I got the 135L is easily 99% of the shooting I've done with the 70-200 was in the 130-135 range.
