I guess sheepdog trials are more of a sport than a pet show, so this is where this image goes. Taken at the Australian National Sheepdog Trials in Canberra a few years ago. Subsequent visits have not turned up any shots more pertinent than this one.

The gear you have should do you OK. I used my 300 mm lens without the extender. Only when the dogs were over the far side of the oval was it too far away.

From memory Mark, I think this dog did get all the sheep in the pen. He certainly didn't put his tail between his legs and run away. Those dogs show tremendous courage.
