published recently, wanted to share the story
I worked with a couple of different people, who worked with 4 organizations over a few months to produce this 3 year calendar, 2013-14-15, done two of our official languages in the NWT. They purchased the rights to use 4 of my images done in the south slave region over the last 5 years. I've done tens of thousands of images in this region, written dozens of pages worth of articles about the experience.
Other official languages that we have north of the 60th parallel, in the Northwest Territories, include: Chipewyan, cree, English, French
, gwich’in, Inuinnaqtun, Inuktitut, Inuvialuktun, North Slavey, South Slavey, Tlicho
On many government signs you will see written next to or below each other. There will be the English meaning, the french, Inuktituk and etc. Quite cool. No pun intended.
One of the people I worked with spoke it fluently and a couple of others, before English and french he learned Cree first. While I knew a few words, I can't speak it myself just yet.
They used 4 of my images and I have a couple hundred calendars that I'll be giving away via my fb page till the end of 2014. . www.facebook.com/karljohnstonphoto
as this fits with my mission to sharing the culture of our unique northern lands with the world. It took me 3 years to do the south slave(y) region. That's just a scale of how long I likely will be spending on this project. I want to cover each region, but I don't want to be in and out in a week or two like so many others have..I'd like to make an impact
and here's some calendar images:
