B&H has the 200-400 for 11,299. That's 500 off the previous list price since it was introduced. Here's hoping it gets a lot cheaper so I can have one.

Ahh ok. The thread above mine made it sound as if it did not come with the lens.

Not quite sure if my plastic is able to handle $11,299 transaction...and not going to find out.

My plastic would handle it, but not sure about my marriage!

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

I think I could convince my wife and I know the plastic could handle it.

BUT could I handle it? It weighs about 8 pounds, a half pound less than my 500 (I) and I really want the 500 II because it's only 7 pounds (and would still tripod mount it). I don't think I could handhold it for more than a minute. I bought a monopod to help hold my 100-400 that weighs just 3.1 pounds. Standing there forever, watching a bird telling it "Turn a bit to your left, to your left, NO YOUR OTHER LEFT!" gets to be too much.

I mentioned it to my wife today. She said "Go get it, honey." And she was serious. What I couldn't tell her was I spent the equivalent of the lens on her Christmas present. Oh, well.
