I have a Manfrotto 454 micro focussing rail to use with my Canon MP-E 65mm lens. It has been a real disappointment. It seems to have only two settings, too tight and too loose. If you loosen the side screw just a tiny bit to enable the distance screw to be turned a tiny bit, the whole gadget moves up and down. If you want to stabilise everything, you have to tighten the side screw to the point where you cannot move the distance screw.
Is there some kind of lubricant one can spray on the thread to make smooth movement possible?
Alternatively, is there anyone out there who has trialled a few brands and has a favourite?
