Is there a particular reason that there's two different size inserts in the foot other than just being able to fit it onto tripod mounts having either size screw? I would think you'd want to use both inserts no matter what tripod base you're mounting it to as I wouldn't trust a lens this heavy using only one screw.
Thanks.

Oh one screw is totally fine.

There are two different sizes to account for the possibility of mounting on a head plate or a base. I always use two screws when I can, but when the lens is on a monopod, you only have the possibility of 1 screw!!

And all of those guys using this thing on the sideline at sports events or the Olympics? Using just 1 screw! Never snaps for those guys and let me tell you -- they're HARD on their equipment.

Why is everyone here so obsessed with post count? Nobody has yet responded to me why anyone cares about post count the 3 times I have questioned someone who said the same thing you just did. You are now the 4th and I expect this claim will continue to go unanswered. Why? I don't know, but everyone seems more than happy to point out that post count matters for something, but nobody wants to explain why it matters for something.

Because what you are doing is annoying as hell and no one can think of any other logical reason for you doing it. Aren't you starting to get the hint that you are annoying a lot of people or are you just that obtuse or self absorbed?

I must agree....its annoying. The logic of why he is doing this is beyond me. The only thing he seems to be doing is attracting negative attention from the rest and this means a really bad start here at POTN.

I frequently check the "new posts" section and have run into these threads far too many times. I don't like to get involved in drama, but I have to agree that this has been very annoying.

You people are so uptight about this. So I figured out how to answer questions that had 0 replies with a filter that prevents them from going back to the start of the forum. I am answering unanswered questions from the last year only now. I talked to the mods and that's what they said to do so I don't accidentally answer a question from 2003.

Actually, I wish more people would periodically revisit questions that had 0 replies because those poor people asked a question and nothing is more annoying than seeking help and not getting a response. This guy thought it was unsafe to screw his 600mm lens into a mount using just 1 screw. I told him it's okay. Wow. To think that he would never attach his 600mm lens into a monopod because of a fear of the lens being too heavy for that, I just alleviated his concerns. Even though I was 4 months after the fact. I think it's okay to do that.

Instead of freaking out about this, please help contribute instead of complaining and answer some questions that nobody attended to.

Adharr, I think you should consider that if a certain amount of time has passed since the last post on a thread you should move on.
I have read helpful and informative replies from you and hope you continue to do so.

And if you are really, truly trying to contribute to the forum, what does this tell you? You've helped 0 people and have frustrated many other members to the point that they're now taking time to voice their frustration instead of actually, you know, contributing to other threads. Does that sound like a net win to you?

Yes I am truly trying to contribute to this forum. I'm about to sign off and finish dinner anyway. I still think I'm making some good contributions here in my free time.

Why don't you answer currently posted questions? Do you really think you are really helping the OP that has posted years ago? Do you realize you are undermining people's effort here to help people with current issues by flooding the forum with old obsolete post? Yes you got everyone's attention, but you certainly are not making friend here. May I recommend a better forum to you? Look at my post history. I'm answering current questions too. Actually, I challenge you to go back through the last 2 weeks since I've been here and you'll see I've consistently been contributing to everything. Just yesterday it popped in my head I could help more by tackling questions that had no replies. I am new so went about it in a disruptive way apparently because I didn't know that my search for questions with 0 replies was pulling up questions from last decade. But that was just yesterday. And now that I know what I'm doing, today I went back through the last 3 months and tackled all the unanswered questions through mid-December.

I even posted a very rare photograph of a newly hatched hummingbird in the bird photograph forum today. I encourage you to check that one out. It's very rare to see a newly hatched hummingbird.
