I'd like to upgrade to Mavericks, mostly to utilize the new FCP X, along with some OS bits I find attractive.
Got a 5,1 Mac Pro/ 3.2 Quad/OS 10.8.5/13GB RAM/ATI Radeon HD 5770/Intuos 3 Tablet that runs well (except for a recently laggy SSD boot/OS drive).
Problem is most of my work is in PS/LR and I've read some horror stories. Given that I have a perpetual license version of PS (CS6), there is no chance for me to get a fix if there are issues, even in the unlikely event that Adobe offered an upgrade to address any bugs. Really don't want to go the CC subscription route. I do make regular bootable backups of my drives.
Not sure where this leaves me. Any thoughts or advice?
Thanks!

Make a time machine back up before you upgrade. Then do the upgrade, test everything out and if something screws up, restore from backup. I had no issues upgrading and I have the full master suite for CS6. I won't do the CC thing either. It was seamless for me, took about 3 hours.

I have a Late 2013 iMac loaded with PS LR and have had zero problems.

Verify all disk permissions are OK. Do backup. Then upgrade. Stop whining and enjoy all the new features.

If you're concerned, wait. I've got Mavericks running on a 3.3 dual-quad 5,1 Mac Pro, but I haven't upgraded the OS with CC, not because of CC, but because of other more complex software that I don't want to break.

I've not seen anything in Mavericks that provides a significant advantage over ML in Photoshop, or that makes me want to screw around with my system.

I upgraded after a few days of it being released. Then I started seeing complains regarding WD drives failing. So I unplugged all my external drives (just as a precaution) and up to now I haven't reconnect it :o

I updated to mavericks on my 2013 iMac and 2010 MBP, using CS6 on both and have had no problems. I use an old printer too (Epson 7600) and it works perfectly.

Photoshop CS5 works fine as do other photo apps.

Endnote X5 will not work.
Had to update drivers for my Epson 3800 printer.

No other issues.

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

For me, until Apple fixes CoreAudio and its problems in Mavericks

So this problem has zero to do with photography and post processing?

Maybe. Who knows? This problem has to do with finding bugs in Mac OS updates, something I'm not used to. Now Apple is doing updates to fix updates. Who knows what else is broken?

And what do you care how fast someone else updates?

OP was taking about PS/LR with Mavericks and asked:

Any thoughts or advice?
