I am making up comp cards for my step-daughters and would like some helpful advice on where to submit them. They all migrated up here to Montana with their mother when she met me. They have all done modeling and acting work in California for a top agent but now they are very isolated from that scene. There ages are 12, 14, 15. We would like to be our own agent ect... now that we dont have access up here to one. But not sure where to submit there comp cards. Or better yet what departments in companies to send them too or where to start getting these girls some more work. They have worked for such companies as Mattel, Billabong, JCPenny, Buckle, ect......

Location: Where I'm from is unimportant, it's where I'm going that counts.

1. What is the purpose of an agency? - Contacts and choice. The models benefit from the extensive contacts the agency has and their customers benefit from the wide choice of different models on the agencies books.
2. Why are there no agencies in Montana? - Because there probably isn't very much work there.

Unless you are planning to just work with small local companies (I think there is a limit to how many local companies will want to use the same three models) your daughters will need to travel to where the work is. Big clients, like the ones you listed, all use advertising agencies and they are going to want to meet the models. They are also going to do business mainly with modelling agencies that can offer them a wide range of talent.

In short, there isn't going to be much benefit in you starting a small agency in a place where there is no work and which has only three models on its books. If you are serious about the girls working as models etc then they may as well sign with agencies in New York or Cali as that is where they are going to have to go for work anyway.

As Dan said, you want to do the work of an agency without having the capability to do so, or potentially the client base.

I wish you luck but don't hold out much hope.

Ever thought of moving back to California?
