You need a longer lens so you could stay further back.

I wouldn't mind knowing the story behind this ceremony.

I don't know the story either. I was asked to be the photographer for this event and got a lot of fun pictures as well as some boring pictures. They were very pleased. This is the Apache "Becoming a woman" ceremony for lack of a better description. She is a former student of mine.

I would have used a longer lens but with people I try to stay in the 50-100 range. This is what you get with a longer lens:

This was the 200 2.8L I think. Not so bad for a long lens on a face I guess.
