Bug id help please ...

Hey all,

We get a few of these guys in one of our room each day, not sure where they're coming from or what they are. Most of them land in dead. About 5mm in length.

Anyone able to shed some light?

Not certain but suspect they are wood boring beetles (ie wood worm adults). Check for small holes in wood.

Hey Brian,

Thanks for the info. I've looked into your suggestion ... it looks like they are "Powderpost Beetle, aka*Lyctus planicollis". We've not used our firewood for over a year and after your post, checked it out and there's diozen of holes and fine wood dust. Also, they've been gathering around the window sill, as some sites suggest they will. Have thrown out the firewood and now wait and see.
