I say I.S.O. (three distinct letters), but I hear it said as a word - 'iso'. I think i=for me it's a carry-over from A.S.A. (not asa).

Just a 'fun' (and I use the word loosely) poll.

ISO, one word, but all capital letters.

ISO is a word, not an acronym. ISO is the name the standards body gave themselves based on a Greek word, isos. The accronym would be I.O.S. or O.I.N.

Had ISO (one word)-grips and pegs on my Harley ;)...

But for camera purposes, I say it as three seperate letters. (FYI, it stands for International Standards Organisation; it refers to the industry norm for sensitivity of emulsion based film).

Two different thoughts. One has to be correct, and the other not so much. I always believed it was what LV Moose is saying, but gjl711 has a good 'argument', backed by this:

(1) Short for International Organization for Standardization. Note that ISO is not an acronym; instead, the name derives from the greek word iso, which means equal. Founded in 1946, ISO is an international organization composed of national standards bodies from over 75 countries. For example, ANSI (American National Standards Institute) is a member of ISO. ISO has defined a number of important computer standards, the most significant of which is perhaps OSI (Open Systems Interconnection), a standardized architecture for designing networks.

Whatever you want to believe, I.S.O is not registered. Plus, there is no International Standards Organization.

it is like the C.I.A. not Cia (SY-a) or F.B.I. not Fbi (not sure how youd pronounce THAT)...

should we continue? Dee-a or D.E.A.?

55 years on the planet, hanging out with other photographers in Nova Scotia, Canada, and California, USA (pronounced "U.S.A", not "you-sa") and I've never heard it pronounced in any other way than as an acronym "I.S.O.". Maybe it's a regional thing, but not in my experience nor in any region I"ve lived in. Just my 2 cents worth.
