Hi,

I just replaced the main logic board in a Canon 40D camera with less than 11K clicks on it. I bought the camera off eBay and knew it was in restricted mode. Canon apparently wanted $255 to set the camera back to normal which is why the camera was for sale.

Anyway, after replacing the main logic board, EOSInfo shows the serial number for the camera as 0. Does anyone know if it is possible to reset this number to the serial number on the camera?

Thanks in advance...
Al

I would suspect Canon will want the same $255 to set the camera serial number whick likely needs proprietary software. If everything functions properly I would just live with it. A longshot would be a firmware reflash but as I say that's a longshot.

The absolute only issue this serial number of zero would create is for a resale of the camera. When that day arrives, just fully disclose the history, and I expect others won't mind, as long as the price reflects the fact.

What is restricted mode and how does it even get in that mode?
The only fix is to replace the logic board?

Restricted mode is well discussed here...https://photography-on-the.net …?t=1316759&highlight=mode.

Interesting because both of these OP's had initial issues with a 40D.

An example, 40D (restricted mode) available for $139 at http://www.ebay.com …44&lgeo=1&vectorid=229466 (external link).
