Hi all,
I would like to explore the reverse lens macro technique. In the setup with two lenses (a zoom lens normally mounted + a reverted prime lens), the reverted lens shuold have a manual aperture ring. I guess is not so easy to find such lens. In some second hand website I found the Canon FD 50mm 1.4 (and 1.8). Do you know if these two lenses have a manual aperture ring ? And if they are appropriate for reverse macro ? Other suggestions on which lens combination to use ? Thanks

They do, I have the 50mm1.4 SSC. Honestly it's really soft until 5.6-8. Which is a shame because most cheap 1.8s sharpen up quicker than that.

I suspect it would be fine. I used some old Pentax SMC 50mm lenses for this and they worked well. You don't really need manual aperture control when reversing one lens on the front of the other as the reversed lens is normally used wide open and aperture control is from the normally mounted lens.
It is however important to have manual aperture control if you are reversing the lens directly onto the body.

Joining this thread a bit late in the game, but below for anyone's information, is a first example from my reverse-mounted Canon FD 50 1.4 SSC (despite the metadata - the 1.4 isn't listed) - just the one lens. (Received the mount today - 55mm thread.) It has manual f-stop capability; this was shot at f11 (also despite the metadata), hand held (carefully); image is uncropped.
