Phenomenal! I hope to be as good as you one day!! What equipment did you shoot this with?

Why thank you. It has been a journey... and bridal sessions are about as easy as it comes in regard to controlling your image. As for equipment, we use Canon 5DIIIs. The lenses used were

  • EF 135 f/2.0
  • EF 85mm f/1.2
  • EF 50mm f/1.2
  • TS-E 45mm f/2.8
  • EF 16-35mm f/2.8

Beautiful wedding shots! Love the way of capturing these amazing shots of bride and groom, especially the last one. The background color and expressions of couple is so perfect. Amazing shots!

I like the one of her sitting in the field. In the last one, what was your off-camera lighting setup?

An AlienBee 800 fired into a 60" Octobox.

WOW
Not sure what else to say about this session really.

Could you give some insight on the last image? What lens was used and basically how was the shot composed?

The 1.8 is a fantastic lens. I owned it before the 1.2, and miss its AF, but what matters to me is the image, which is why the 1.2 was purchased.

As for post processing, it came out of Lightroom with pretty basic settings. S curve. Dropped saturation on greens and yellows. Boosted vibrance to 11. Brushed her face, and made the eyes pop. Exported it to Photoshop, where I touched the eyes up one more time and did a little skin smoothening.

The last thing, probably what you are noticing, is a custom action I've developed... which crushes the blacks by a tiny amount, boosts the oranges/reds. I then usually mask it the subjects body to keep contrast levels decent. I hope that helps.

Thanks for sharing the lightroom technique!

These are just beautiful - the colouring is insane and that last shot with their heads together just seals it for me - stunning!

That was shot with a 85mm 1.2. There was a big octobox about 10 ft away from the couple on camera left. I believe it was shot at 1.2 as the light levels were manageable later in the day.

What focal point are you using when shooting the 85L at 1.2 its pretty sharp are you using center focal point ? The octabox shot in the field with background tree came out sharp.

For the first photo, it was shot at f/2.0 using the upper-right focal point. Ever since moving to the 5DIII, I've been able to rely on other AF points than the center. If I would have used center and then dragged, it probably would have been fine at that distance, but I try to stay away from that technique.

In the second (wider) photo with the octobox, it was shot at 1.4. Because of the greater distance between the couple and the background, it worked out well. I hardly ever dip into the 1.2 range as CA and sharpness is noticeably hurt.
