Hey everyone,

So this my first post so hopefully this the right place for the question. Basically I'm getting back into photography and I'm looking for some advice. Originally I had a Canon T3i and a couple entry level lenses (50mm 1.8 & 55-250 IS) but I ended selling off my gear. So now I'm looking to get started again, but I want to get something that's a step up. So, my choices are either a new Canon 70d or I could get a used 5d Mk II off of craigslist. Do the advances in the 70d make it worth it, or does the full-frame on the 5d Mk II outweigh all the 70d has to offer? I'll mostly be doing photography (portraits and some wildlife) and a bit of video work.

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

- Paul

I love me some full frame, but given the choice, I would have a hard time turning down a 70D. Dont get me wrong, full frame files are a joy to work with but I like the technological advancements the 70D brings to the table over the rather dated (but still totally acceptable) 5D 2.

Hands down the 70d for video work. A lot of wildlife users on here are getting great results with the 70d for wildlife photographs. In wildlife photography the faster frames per second can be important, in in this matter the 70d would be the better choice. Now, as for the portraits, the 5d Mk II would probably still be the choice.

So it really depends on how you balance these three types of photography. If the portrait work is by far the most important part of your work and you just think you may do the other two, by all means look into the older 5d Mk II. If not, and the other two uses of the camera are just as important taken together, the new 70d would be hard to pass up.
