swatcop's setup is where the inspiration for my setup came. The key is to use quality bulbs, and custom WB and/or shoot raw. Outside of that, trial and error - and not setting your studio on fire...

Tommy, here is my version of the "ghetto studio."

LOL... that made me laugh. "ghetto studio" :D I have the same thing. Just made a silver reflector from a torn apart box and tinfoil. LOL When I get my backdrop and stand, I'll post the results.

I went the commercial way and bought a small product photography table & a 24" softbox with a 250W halogen hotlight stuck inside it. The table is made of a semi-transluscent white plastic that allows most of the shadows to drop through rather than reflect back. I got the softbox because it came with a boom stand and was more convenient than setting up clip lamps (I used to shoot a LOT of products).

Here's a quickie I just now put together:

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

Yep here ya go. Don't mind the mess. I've also repositioned the softbox more over the table than I had it for the shot, and I put the flash back on my camera to take this pic.

(Just a couple technicalities I wanted to address! :p)

PS: I don't recommend Britek lights. They overheat too soon, flicker a lot, then shut off completely...all within about 15 minutes. Go with a better brand if you do a setup like this.

Yeah but it cost a heap more too. And I didn't even get any calcium out of it. :(

Im using my 20D with the 580EX to produce shot like this.
My products are surrounded only by high gloss photo paper and it works great for my use. FEC it and resolve the rest during raw conversion.
And my off shoe cord comes in handy sometimes as well during shoots like this.

Sure, quick and dirty photo. The paper need to be really tucked in and I usually have roof with paper as well, but now it was creating a shadow where the graduation started so that could be confusing.
