Not sure of the name of this one. Anyone got any accurate ideas?

It was in a hedge growing at ground level around the base of a young sawn-off tree.
The heads were about 5 inches (130mm) diameter.
Some type of bracket fungus, perhaps? - I ask myself!:-)

Very much like a deadly fungus we get here that grows in soil around trunk and kills the tree.
Also any others that try to regrow in same spot.
That's been my experience here.
Looks very similar to your photo :-(

Richard thanks for reply. If we can't find a common name perhaps the Death-Knell Fungus might be suitable.:-)
I actually took another shot while I was there to show the fungal ring formed around the base.
This shot was looking down from the top of the 3 ft. cut-off trunk. It looks like a young silver birch?
The hole in the top is either drilled, or due to decay?
