How about a FUNGUS thread?

Two kinds, a few inches apart, on a sawn tree stump.

Not sure what it is.

Ray; I would say it is something like shaggy inkcap, if cut it should provide a thick black juice.

It's been fine weather for fungi.

Another stump, another two colonies:

Wow that is a great selection there Oh Look, the variety in your potting shed is very unusual.

Thank you, Lester. In December, the potting bench is shaded all day, perhaps allowing random spores to take hold.

Returning to the potting bench today. Looky looky, a pink colony emerged since yesterday!

Such gorgeous images here! Breath taking! Now I wish I had captured the clump of solid black srooms I saw about a week ago.

Originally posted December 23, 2014; edited and moved to the present post to allow showing the photo: The pink fungus, it turns out, is identical to the previous day's purple-black fungus. It's just younger. Two hours later, the specimens above were almost as dark as those in the shot taken on December 22. Here's an image of some of the fungus from yesterday, showing more clearly its black stalks. The tallest bundles are about 8 mm high, including stalks.

Well done the ID. See a few slime moulds but not as interesting as that. They are normally little pink blobs:
