It is time for my annual reminder that Alaska Department of Fish and Game is currently taking applications for the 2014 McNeil River permit lottery. You can apply online at Fish and Game's website.
I know I've probably posted some of these pics before but they are still fun.
-McNeil River State Game Sanctuary encompasses about 200 sq mi at the north end of the Alaska Peninsula just north of Katmai National Park.
-One of the largest seasonal concentrations of brown bears in the world.
-Access is by permit only and limited to 10 viewers a day.
-Permit blocks are 4 days
-bring your own tent and food
-Bear viewing in June is done on Mikfik Creek
-Bear viewing in July is at McNeil Falls
-Bear viewing in August is done up and down the lower McNeil River and Lagoon.
