It seems that I can only do 5x zoom on the LiveView view on the remote device (e.g. smartphone). Am I missing something? Is it possible to get 10x? I am using the Android version of the EOS Remote utility on a Samsung Galaxy S3, and the camera is a 6D using the built-in ad-hoc WIFI connection.

To be honest, I couldn't say what the magnification is. I just tap to centre the display on the point of interest, then "reverse pinch" to magnify it. It seems like more than 5x to me, but I've never checked, or had need to, as what I get that way is adequate to assess focus. This is for macro work too, so DoF is often limited.

(6D, EOS remote for android, Nexus 4)

P.S.
Maybe I double tap to centre, which also magnifies some - then I can reverse pinch for more; it's fairly intuitive so I can't exactly recall, sorry.

It is definitely 5x. Hitting the zoom button on the body shows the 5x times view on both the Liveview on the body as well as the remote app. Pressing the zoom button on the body again as the Liveview on the body go to 10x but the view on the remote staying at 5x. Pressing the zoom button on the body yet again takes you back to 1x on both the body as well as the remote app.

Conversely, double-tapping the display on the remote app toggles between 5x and 1x magnification.

Either way, I cannot seem to get 10x on the remote app.

Have you tried the "reverse pinching" gesture?
Once I have the rig set up, I don't touch the camera controls at all; I may twiddle tripod/mount positioning for composition, or lens manual focus, but I set all parameters and trigger the exposure from the phone.

Good info at http://cpn.canon-europe.com …erstanding_eos_utility.do (external link)

Select an area and then hit the magnifying icon for a 100% view of the selected area.

I think that he is talking about an App for an Android device called "EOS Remote Utility" John. I thought the same thing at first too.

Yep, I misunderstood the OP's post. He is questioning about the remote utility currently for just the 6D.

Yes, I am talking about the Canon Android app that allows for remote controlling of the camera ("EOS Remote"), and the body being used here is a 6D.

Double-tapping on the smartphone screen toggles between 5x and 1x zoom. Reverse-pinching does not seem to do anything (though you can use a "two-finger-twist" to rotate the screen).

I don't know Androids or the App that you are using, but I would think that possibly there might be an option in settings(preferences) where you could select either 5X or 10X zoom to be assigned to the double tap command.

That was my hope/thought, too. But no such option exists.

The app page (external link) posted by John from PA has a video that walks through some of the features, and mentions/shows "double-tap on the screen to check focus". This double-tap is the 5x zoom.

My apologies. The reverse pinch method doesn't work during preview, but it does when reviewing images.
