Question, do you use a contract for portrait work and if so does it have an option for the client to opt out of having photos posted on-line for promotion and critique, etc.?

I have been doing quite a bit of work with models and always get a model release but I am venturing into the pin up portrait world for amateur ladies and would like to use some of the shots to promote my business as well as in various forums for critique and really do not have a good handle on what documentation I should use. Also, is consideration given for ladies that allow for use of their photos? Maybe an extra pic or discount?

Thanks for your advice!

Client relation is paramount when running a photography business so I'd say it wouldn't hurt to compensate a model with a extra print or small discount when your starting off. look at it as a means to spread good 'word of mouth' marketing. They'll most likely appreciate the fact you gave them a discount and might speak highly of you in the future, resulting in more clients/exposure.

Regarding the contract part, I always play it safe and get EVERYTHING in writing.

I would offer a discount / or extra prints (her choice) and get a model release stating you have the rights to use the images for promotional work. Explain why she's getting the discount up front ... and put that in the release, state the fact that the model got something in return for the release. The more you get in writing, the better off you'll be ... Spoken words mean nothing if a push comes later.
