It was one of THOSE days today......

I'm guessing I won't win any awards for proper camera care but luckily it cleaned up nicely so I got off easy this time with just a lesson learned!! I won't set my camera on my vest in the back seat and then pull the vest out later to put it on.....

SO - what's the most expensive piece of equipment you've screwed up and how'd it happen???

Well, I did split a 24-70L into two pieces. . . . . . .

Fortunately for me it was just the lens mount. It stripped one screw hole but the other three are holding strong, tightened them up and it's still going strong. Maybe one day I'll get the mount replaced.

Brush it off and let it dry, it'll be fine (been there, done that, felt like @$@$* for days)

Someone knocked my tripod over with my 24-70 attached to my 7D. 7D fine, 24-70 needed $300 to replace the AF.

That doesn't look damaged, that just looks like it's being used.

Agreed! Not sure about the weather sealing in the Tamron though.

Had a 16-35 split just forward of the lens mount.

Dropped a 1d body (it fell off a lens) on the pentaprism - wrecked the AF point display - pentaprism internals needed replacing.

Had a 400 2.8L get stuck on a mk4 body too - just needed new mounts

200 2L + 5DII....

I slipped and fell on some wet grass. All got fixed but it was a hard fall. I was OK but the equipment had to go visit CPS.

I didn''t screw it up, but similar to your experience, I pulled something out of the back of my car and the strap on my 3 week old 5DII caught it. Pulled the camera and 17-40 out of the trunk and it dropped out, just broke the fall a bit with my foot, but it hit the concrete pretty hard and rolled 3 ft.

Fortunately it was just scratched up. The Av/Tv/M knob was dented and the metal ring on the top came off, but otherwise the camera and lens were fine.

I ran over my EOS-1 in my F250 Supercab 4x4 while out ice fishing.

I do hope to getting around to replacing it someday.

I'd be interested in knowing what you did.

As to my equipment, it's probably a tie. I'm dealing with a hosed nifty-fifty right now, and a few years back I trashed a tripod while shooting pictures (outside) in a hurricane. I guess they're about the same value, so hence the tie.
