i tried to download the first two links above and it both led me to spam downloads (one of which took me 20 minutes to clear, i'm not even sure i got rid of it all)

anyone have a direct download please?

When navigating to these types of web pages to download something, you have to be careful which "DOWNLOAD" button you press.

The host of the web site will typically post some advertising for products other than what you are trying to download and you can easily
be fooled into clicking on the wrong button.

In this one http://www.shutteractuations.com/ (external link)
for example - the START DOWNLOAD button is not for the Shutter Actuation software.

There is that too, I had forgotten about that. I just have been trained over the years to differentiate the right download. Even today, sometimes, I get the wrong one. :(

Yeah, its very confusing say when looking for freeware or shareware with Google and you land on the website and there are at least 10 buttons that all say "Download".

Be careful what you click.

So while you are logged in and getting into accounts, etc, what happens? The issue with all these things you download are no longer what damage they might cause to your computer, but rather what all they watch while you do things online. Some malware actually will send things out from your computer to others, including emails, etc. Proactive prevention is always better than reactive refreshes during bootup.

Good reboot refresh systems will give you an option to set up a folder where nothing is refreshed there. You can then point your cookies/cache perhaps to that area. The other thing you can do is use lastpass, and it will autofill all your login fields regardless of a system refresh.

I just used EOS Count to determine the shutter count for my 6D.

I was having trouble at first, but then I contacted Sergey to get some help. It seems that the most recent ActiveX will detect the 6D, whereas the prior versions do not.

If you're having trouble finding your 6D shutter count, you will need to uninstall ActiveX, and re-install. The removal process is described in the EOS Count FAQ.

Kudos to Sergey for a great product and even better support.

I wasn't promoting the product. I was pointing out that the web site is full of nasty traps to get you to download things you don't want.

My suggestion was to stay away from it. Free or not.

Here's the count app for Macs. There is a link to the Mac App Store. So worth the couple of bucks for it.
