I love the clean and bright look that this photographer (Michele Anderson) achieves in her images - I have read somewhere in her blog that she uses Itty Bitty actions - but still, any guesses on how does she achieve such a clean yet saturated look in all her images?

Thanks in advance for all your responses.

Heya,

Looks like a little contrast tweak (increased) and some saturation bump (increased). Beyond that, just take a clear, sharp photo (such as with a prime) in cloudy light without harsh exposure so that nothing is blown out and you can do this. I'm sure you can mimic the overall look without fancy software. Also, this is where you dress your clients, to select the best colors for making them pop. Notice no one is wearing flat colors in a dingy lighting area? Everything is bright and vibrant, that's smart choices on clothing/location.

Very best,

If you are going to emulate this style, might I suggest dialing back the overdone eyes a little bit.

Thanks for your responses - I have been trying to get such clean images indoors while shooting with clients but it seems I need to work harder at my lighting to get it so uniform.

Here are more of her indoor images - so very clean. http://pinkletoesblogstalker.com …rn-lifestyle-photography/ (external link)

She has mastered the art of interaction with the client, they feel comfortable with her and it shows with the emotion. ;)

Also, please tell me you won some sort of award with that sunset, camel caravan image on your site. Your landscape/environmental images are stellar.

"Clean" isn't a word I would use for this work. To me this is anything but clean. I see a lot of fake lens blur, highlights, lens flare, etc. I'm not saying it's bad work. Just helping to define the term. "Clean" to me means free of distractions, blown highlights, and lost shadows, and sharp as can be. I think what you may be referencing is the contrast and/or saturation.
You can get there by either using actions found on the internet either for sale, or freeware, or you work with levels and curves and come up with something you like and save it as an action to repeat on multiple images.
One set I happen to be very fond of are the florabella actions. http://www.florabellacollection.com/ (external link) . I've created a few similar actions that I use on occasion but I don't shoot this kind of material enough to justify buying them.

So that's where this "look" is coming from.

Well, I wouldn't call it the source. It's just a trend that's gotten out of hand and is overused....just like "HDR" tonemapping. Florabella is just another company capitalizing on the demand for such actions and happens to do it better than some of the others that are out there.

Ive seen this type question on more than a few posts from various posters? What does "clean" mean? Noiseless? I'm sincerely asking, because Ive seen the question posed regarding various types of photos with varying amount of PP, but I dont see a common denominator.

From Merriam-Webster Dictionary: Clean
1

a : free from dirt or pollution <changed to clean clothes> <clean solar energy>

b : free from contamination or disease <a clean wound>

c : free or relatively free from radioactivity <a clean atomic explosion>

2

a : unadulterated, pure <the clean thrill of one's first flight>

b of a precious stone : having no interior flaws visible

c : free from growth that hinders tillage <clean farmland>

3

a : free from moral corruption or sinister connections of any kind <a candidate with a clean record>; also : free from violations <a clean driving record>

b : free from offensive treatment of sexual subjects and from the use of obscenity <a clean joke>

c : observing the rules : fair <a clean fight>

There are a few points of the example photo that meet the definition of 'Clean'...;)

Thanks for taking time to respond to my question guys. I am not trying to start any controversy - its just a simple question for the process you guys think she achieved this kind of effect with (could be shooting style or PP). Photography is part science and part art - i just happened to like her art style so i ask. I really appreciate your time to comment.

Thanks Shane - I did not submit it to any competitions - its just one of those images close to my heart - I shot about 40-50 frames hoping to get the sun somewhat cradled by the rope connecting the camels - I guess i got super lucky - it was hard running along with this caravan in the desert sand with 2 camera bodies on my shoulders.
