I've been primarily making exposures on my 20D using the L fine or S fine jpeg format. I recently starting taking photos in RAW+L jpeg format. When using Adobe PS CS, the program will not allow me to open up the RAW CR2 files. A message pops up saying that I cannot open up the files because they are the "wrong type". Prior to attempting to process RAW files, my post-processing has been limited to adjusting basic levels with jpeg files. What am I missing here?

I had a similar issue and, after installing this most recent update and restarting my computer every thing worked fine.

I think you need Photoshop CS2 for RAW images

MD is correct.

Perhaps it's best to offer advice only when you're sure of the answer. Photoshop has been doing RAW since PS7, it was a $100 plugin then, free with CS, and improved with CS2.

Thanks! I'll download the update and see if that fixes the problem.

For the 20D, you need Camera Raw 2.4 or higher, which is compatible with Photoshop CS. Camera Raw 3.x can't be used with Photoshop CS - it requires CS2.

Download Camera Raw 2.4 here (external link) for Windows or here (external link) for Macintosh.

I guess lucky for us 20D and PS CS owners, we still can use CS to open RAW from our camera. If you have 350XT, i think you have to upgrade to PS CS2 if shoot raw.

With the 350D, you can supposedly use the DNG Converter 3.3 to convert to DNG, then open the DNG in Photoshop CS using Camera Raw 2.4.
