Ah, didn't see anything mentioned about ISO, just focusing issues. How do you process your images, like do you shoot raw, etc? What ISO starts to give you grief?
3200 should be fine, 6400 should be salvageable, and 12800 could be used in a pinch...

Jan 06, 2014 17:10 | #20 exchange it. Lenses and cameras are built with a bit of tolerance, sometimes one has the bad luck to get a combo that has both edging towards the opposing outer limits. Or do micro adjust if you camera has that option. But if it were me and the lens is brand new, I'd exchange it first. Depending on where you bought it, you might be able to keep both for a bit (i.e. request an exchange and wait for it to be delivered, before sending the other back) If both behave the same I'd probably send the camera to Canon and/or try an other brand first. 40D, 5D3, a bunch of lenses and other things

Then you are missing out on at least 2 stops of usability, IMO. Going to a 5D3/6D, you will only go up to 3200. Here is an ISO 3200 shot directly from raw, no further post processing in CS or LR. It is quite simple to improve this image even more with some minor cleanup. If you would like to know how to get more out of your camera, please just let me know, and I will point you to some material.
