They would have sold for $800 if Canon put a red ring on them

If they had put a red ring on them I think the price would have started out at around $1500 and then dropped to $800 :p

True, but that's much the same story with just about every canon product... early adopters pay a premium, to some people it's worth it ;)

I don't know of any other Canon EF/EOS products that dropped almost 40% in price in that short a time frame!

^Only time will tell. I haven't had much success with Sigma lenses, even with the Sigma 35.

I know it isn't out yet, but I wonder if any pictures exist of the new 35 f/1.4 ART next to the 50 f/1.4 ART for a size comparison?

Pretty sure the 50 will have a larger diameter. probably 77mm. compared to the 67mm on the 35 1.4

just a guess, but I'm pretty sure.

I hope this doesn't deflate the price of a 50L. I'm thinking of selling mine soon before this thing is released.

I hope it does, I wouldn't mind having a 50L  Then again, it's also pretty huge...

It probably will. The 50L is great in many ways, but its a highly specialized lens IMO (lack of floating element, focus shift, etc etc).

If the Sigma 50 art is anything like the 35, it will excel in the areas that most people find valuable (sharpness wide open), and will the more universally useful lens.

Sigma is getting very serious about primes. If this will be even better then their previous 50 1.4 I don't think I will be able to resist it.

If it weren't better, they wouldn't have a reason to make it. That's logical, though, so who knows. lol.

I just hope that this does not have the focusing issues that the previous version did. Had one, tried it, sent it back. Fingers crossed for this one. :-)

Thats the whole point. The new ART lenses are dock compatible so if you do have focus issues out of the box you can sort them quite easily as has been the case with the new 35 ART.
