here's hoping for OTUS like IQ for under 1k.

If that's the case, it's a no-brainier purchase for me, as my 50L gets used for 1,000's of shots a year. Looking forward to results.

I can't express my joy about latest Sigma releases. If I had to guess based on that optical design this lens is going to be stellar.
I'm glad they didn't go for f/1.2 as it would have increased the weight closer to 1kg, which imho is too much for a standard focal length lens. So I'd much rather have a sharp f/1.4 lens. Brawo Sigma! And my guess the price will be tad more than 35mm Art. Which is not too bad if you compare it to it's main rivals, such as 50L and the new Nikon 58/1.4.

Figured they would be re-doing their 50. Can't want to see how it does, and yes hopefully it isn't plagued with their current 50mm's focus woo's

Here is a link to the lens on the sigma site (external link)

Yeah, I am rethinking the 1.2 being a drawback. If it is strong from 1.4, and the bokah is comparable and it is $850....that would be pretty legit.

I highly doubt the AF will be like the last 50, I would expect it to be the same as the 35.

Sigma could introduce enough nice lenses the next few years to make buying a Sony camera like having a Sony sensor with canon L glass:shock:

I remember reading Sigma are going to be releasing lenses full force this year and they've started early! I am very happy with my current Sigmalux so I don't think I'll upgrade,I'm broke from my 100mm and never sold a lens before so may be too much of a hassle. I may just wait for Canon to release an improved version of their 1.4 and if the IQ and AF is better than Sigma, then I'll buy that ^^

$900 I bet.

Very best,

Lol, I'll take you up on that. There's no way Sigma would price a 50 1.4 the same as a 35 1.4. Also, so far their old lenses that have been re-made as a "global vision" lens, has not cost more than $50 over the original price of the lens it replaced, so I say no more than $550.

I can live with the 50L, but this is what I lust for. It could be next best to 200F2.

concur in the 500-600 range. It is a 1.4 and look at Canon current 1.4 street price.

If it is part of the Art series I think it can utilize the dock for focus optimization.
