OK, I read this all over the forum.
1) the lens is too heavy
2) battery grip adds too much weight
3) I want mirror less because of the weight savings

So I gotta ask... Are you serious?

Do you guys have no arm strength?
How weak are you really?
Do you ever go to the gym?
How do you guys travel, with more than an over night bag?
Did you trade in your Ipad2 for an iPad air because the 2 was too heavy?

Sure a set up can get heavy, but too heavy to use?

I just find this all too much to be for real.

Lol I wonder the same at time but am a regular at the gym so can't really relate to what it may feel like for someone whom the camera is probably the heaviest thing they ever lift ;)

Uh... not too heavy one item at a time, but try carrying a shoulder bag with a camera with 24-70 or 70-200 attached plus another lens or two and a flash in it for, say, a couple of hours. ;)

I hear you. However, you cannot assume everyone has the same mobility or strength as you do. Certain injuries can wreck havoc on one's ability to lift things at certain angles.

I agree. A heavier camera is a more stable platform from which to shoot, and is rarely "too heavy to use." Granted, I'm a decently strong, young male, but only after shooting all day with a 70-200 2.8 do I feel even remotely sore.

I thought getting a light laptop was pretty cool, weighing just 3 lbs. And then I look at my laptop bag and it's 3 lbs too. <shrugs>

What condescending drivel. And yes, I replaced my 15" Macbook Pro with a 13" Macbook Air because it added too much weight. I'm 5' tall and weigh about 110 lbs. Lifting a 30 or 35 lb. camera bag into an overhead compartment isn't easy for us short people. :-)

Yes

Do you guys have no arm strength?
It's not that I can't hold the camera, but its weight is uncomfortable enough to make casual shooting unenjoyable
How weak are you really?
Very.
Do you ever go to the gym?
Everyday.
How do you guys travel, with more than an over night bag?
My suitcase has these things called wheels.
Did you trade in your Ipad2 for an iPad air because the 2 was too heavy?
Not yet, but I will. I have a Mini that has been tying me over.

See above.

I shoot mirrorless for fun (Fuji X100s, X-Pro1, Ricoh GR). DSLR comes out only for tripod work (long exposure) or paid gigs.

I find this funny, as I think the same thing when I read some of the threads..

I am an old guy that travels, hikes, and camps, and I always take several of my lenses, tripod, and for the most of the time both of my DSLRs with me (both with different type of lenses attached). I am not saying it doesn't get a bit heavy after a days hike, but it is totally worth it to me!

It could be that some of the heaviest things some of these folks pick up on a regular basis is a game controller :>;)

Sounds like a good New Years resolution..
Hit the gym with not a EOY bench or squat goal but of handhoding a gripped 5d3 with a 70-200 Mk ii all day without discomfort.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

I carry a lot of gear regularly.
I handhold a 500mm & 1 series body.
Do I wish it was lighter? Sure.
If I were going to carry a camera all day and not expect to take any pictures, I would like it to be very small & light.

That's the thing about photography is that anyone can do it, from well-abled young adults to seniors with mobility issues. Sure a camera and lens combo might be light to you but to a senior in a wheelchair or a person with arthritis, that same combo might be impossible to shoot with.

Every time I read one of these posts I wonder at how stupid and narrow minded some people can be.

I take it you've never shot a 6hr bat mitzvah with gripped 5DMII+24-70 spending 80% of your time bending/hunching down to the levels of a hall of kids. The soreness kicked in so strong the next morning and my legs shook away quietly for hours afterwards.
