Need help picking a flash. I keep seeing a few that people talk about the most but wondering what one of these would you choose. I'm new to the whole off camera flash world and trying to decide on a Flash, trigger and a stand with lightbox or umbrella. I would like to start off Manual for now a with a Canon 70D. This is for home use and fill flash in the field.

1.NEEWER® NW680/TT680
2. Yongnuo YN 560 III
3. Yongnuo YN 560 II
4.NEEWER® TT850
5.GODOX VING V850

For triggers let me know what you think. I have been reading up on a few but seems like the YN-603's seem to be the way to go. The Godox FT-16 look nice also but I assume that will only work with there Brand?

Thanks for the help in advance!!
Ralph

I would go with the YN 603 transceiver and YN560 III since the YN560III has a receiver built in that will work with the 603 transceiver. =)

I've got a few of the older Yongnuo 560 IIs, they sit on the shelf now because the 560 IIIs have the built in receiver. Makes life so much simpler.

I love the 560 IIIs, they even get more use then my Canon 580s.

I know a photography teacher that has a suitcase full of the Yongnuos because they're cheap and work well.

I have three of the 560iii, and an RF-603. They have been rock solid in use, and I would strongly recommend the combination.

I'd get what can control power from camera location.

I like to be able to adjust the flash output from camera, either via the camera menuing or the transmitter. The YN622Cs will allow that when used with certain Canon bodies and speedlites. Some of the barebulb units (Godox, Cheetah 180, 360) have this control option available. I would be going with a CL360 set with control options if I were in the market (I like bare bulb), else I'd be going with the YN622Cs and a Yongnuo speedlite that supports in camera menuing flash control.

OK, I see what your saying now. I assume your talking TTL for the canon. The YN 568 and the YN622 would be a pair.

I don't care about ttl, I care about being able to adjust the power settings manually. What camera are you using?

Take a look at your users guide at the flash menu options. You should be able to manually adjust your flash power to at least 2, if not 3 seperate groups. Using the 622Cs allows you to do this to compatable Canon and Yongnuo speedlites.

OK thanks.. Lol, i said I'm very new at this :) Is the 622C's the only trigger that will allow me to do this or would the 603's do it too? Heading to the manual now to see what I can find.
Thanks..

If you only need remote manual you can't beat the Godox/Neewer V850 (external link).

Triggers are the FT-16s.

They YN-560 III is the pick of the YN manual flashes, but the transmitter to allow remote control is not available yet. The new RF-603 II (external link) would be the best basic option in the mean time.

The V850 is worth every cent more though, and considering you get battery and charger its a similar price anyway for a much nicer flash.

This was one that caught my eye. I see from the FT-16 that it will control the flash. Will my camera menu do is also?

I'm just trying to wrap my head around all the menu features for the flash and what uses them.

Thanks

No the FT-16 does not work through the camera menu, but its much faster and easier than trying to set manual power levels through the camera menu.

The camera menu was never the ideal option, and even the YN-622C will have a new transmitter coming with its own built in interface avoiding the flash control menu.

Godox will have a new transmitter coming at some point as well, but even the current FT-16 is the fastest easiest control currently available.
