I'm thinking about biting the bullet and spending the money to move from DPP to Lightroom. I've downloaded Lightroom 5.3 and am using it in the 30 day trial mode. One of the features that I want is the ability to do lens corrections for non-Canon lenses. I looked at the Adobe website before I downloaded Lightroom and it lists my Tamron 17-50 as a supported lens. HOWEVER, now that I've downloaded Lightroom and have started working with it I see that it doesn't have a lens profile for my Tamron, or for my 70-200 f4 for that matter. What's up with that?

The lens profiles are very limited when shooting .jpg. Shoot raw and you'll see the profile there.

Oh crap, I somehow managed to import all my raw AND jpgs into Lightroom, even though I keep them in different sub-directories. Yes, I see now all the profiles that are in there for raw images (which is all I shoot). The learning continues.

I have never used a lens that LR doesn't have a raw profile for. Or however you say that.

Any idea why is that?

Not that I'm losing any sleep over this as I shoot RAW (and rarely push the RAW+JPG button on my 7D...) I'm just curious...

The reason that is usually given is that nowadays a lot of cameras have at least some (and often more than just some) lens correction built into their jpg proccessing, so to do it again in LR would be over-correction.
