Hey guys,

How much do you normally charge for a outdoor family session and covering a 1st bday event? I've shot numerous family sessions and events but never really charged them (mainly because they were family and friends). Funny, they always manage to give me $100-$200 gift certificates just as a token of appreciation. :D

I've recently had an inquiry from a non-relative! but don't know exactly how much I should charge. My guess is it would take about 2-3 hours for an outdoor session and another 2-3 hours to cover the event. I plan to provide 2 (16x20) prints (to use at the event) and digital copies of edited photos (from both outings) via DVD.

My guess is between $300 - $500? Any thoughts?

Dunno in your area. In mine, I'd quote it as a half-day rate: $450.

I would charge $250 to cover both events. And charge them for the 16x20's. Those cost money. My 16x20 price is $199

I also do not think the digitals are needed. If they spend $xxx amount on prints, then sure, include the digitals, but don't give yourself away! Your work is too good for that!

I charge $200 an hour for events (one photographer). That just includes my time. It is extra for prints, products, and a additional photographer.
The price of digital files is dependent on the hours I am there. So many hours = so many images.

Thanks for the input folks. I think I'll stay around $400 - $500 area.
